RIP romance: How the curse of choice has ruined online dating
Whether you are a woman or a man, please do not speak for all women. While men can still offer input, if your view conflicts with a woman's, we ask that you do not downvote or invalidate her response. What unrealistic expectations do women have about dating? Not all women obviously but I think a large number of us take projects with the expectation everything will work out.
Like we ignore the orange or even red flags, date with people we're clearly on different pages about dating, then hope they will change because we give them love, care, and attention.
Is Online Dating Destroying How We Date? | HuffPost
We hear that doesn't work for most people. We still like to believe we're going to be an exception. If you have any questions about this moderation action, please message the moderators through the link on the sidebar or here. I can think of one friend in particular who has always struggled with dating because she has this notion of romance which seems to come entirely from the movies.
She approaches dating like it should be the guy just doing romantic gesture after romantic gesture. She has this long list of characteristics she's totally inflexible and unreasonable about, not serious dealbreakers but more stuff like he needs to have certain hobbies, be a certain height, dress in a certain way etc.
Another friend I have unrealistically expects that someone will just fall into her lap without putting any effort in at all. Having access to millions of potential romantic partners has created a super breed of men and women that have become unrealistically picky. Men and women are arriving to dates with an invisible checklist of countless qualities they are looking for, and while it is good to be a little picky, creating a checklist that no one but a terrible Matthew Mcconaughey rom com character could satisfy is not healthy.
That is, if someone is even lucky enough to make it to a first date. I've seen countless profiles online where women who are who barely five feet tall proudly declare that they refuse to entertain the idea of meeting any man who is not at least six feet tall. In my humble opinion, this pickiness can be directly attributed to online dating. If these same men and women knew that they had to rely on friends, family, co-workers or randomly meeting someone in their everyday life, their expectations would not be nearly as unrealistic.
But with supply comes demand. And in the online dating world, there is certainly an excess of supply, allowing superficiality to take over logic. But the negative impact online dating is having on our culture does not stop there. It has also contributed to a "next best thing mentality" and an ADD style of dating. A man and a woman may go on a date and have a good time, but in the back of their minds, they know they have ten emails waiting for them in their inbox back home.
